About the Marlin

Marlin Firearms, established in 1836 in Connecticut by John Mahlon Marlin, began as a producer of pistols and derringers. In 1881, it ventured into lever-action repeating rifles with the Model 1881. A key development was the Model 1889, which featured a solid top that ejected cartridges from the side, enhancing safety. This "Marlin Safety" became a hallmark of its rifles. Throughout its history, Marlin has been known for its lever-action rifles, particularly the Model 336, introduced in 1948 and still popular today.

About the 336

The Marlin 336 is a classic lever-action rifle that was first introduced in 1948. It is based on the earlier Model 36 and remains highly popular today. Known for its side ejection system, the Marlin 336 allows for clear optic mounting on the top of the receiver. It features a six-cartridge tubular magazine, a single-stage trigger, and pre-installed adjustable sights. Safety features include a three-position cocking hammer and a cross-hammer safety introduced in 1983 models. The receiver is drilled and tapped with four holes for secure mount attachment. Possible barrel lengths for the Marlin 336 are 16 inches, 20 inches, and 24 inches​​.

Design of the Rail

The Contessa Picatinny Rail for Marlin Lever /336/1895 is constructed from steel, known for its superior hardness and durability compared to aluminum, ensures a higher degree of repeatability with less wear over time. The picatinny rail features 15 slots and 4 mounting holes. A distinct central canal on the rail allows for the concurrent use of the rifle's iron sights, offering a reliable backup sighting solution without the need to remove the picatinny rail when there is nothing mounted on it. This picatinny rail is attached to the rifle with four screws.

Mounting Instructions

Remove all the stains (grease, oil etc.) from the rifle's receiver with a cleaning fluid (acetone). Once the surface is clean and dry, check whether the screws match the rail and the holes on the receiver. Before mounting the rail permanently, apply a minimal amount of thread-locking fluid 278 or 648 on screws. Be careful not to get the fluid in or near the mounting holes. Carefully clean the remaining excess fluid around the rail with a cleaning fluid. Using a torque driver, screw the screws appropriately (up to 3 Nm/26.5 in-lbs).
